Abstract: This study aims to discuss the current state and issues of X-ray protective clothing for medical workers. First, we analyzed the current state of commercial X-ray protective clothing considering their materials, structures, shapes, dimensions, and mass. Then, we measured the clothing pressure in the region around the shoulder while the protective clothing is worn. Because the protective clothing was extremely heavy and its pattern had a planar structure, considerable measurement location-dependent variation in the clothing pressure was observed. In particular, extremely high clothing pressure was noticed in some regions. Flexural uplifts and buckling deformations on the protective clothing were also observed locally. Furthermore, we measured the moisture permeability and found that the material was impermeable to moisture. Therefore, in addition to the issues mentioned above, X-ray protective clothing may also pose the risk of moisture trapping.
