死に纏わる経験と幸福観の関連について : 現代若年層に於ける宗教と死生観を切り口に

Abstract

我が国では数年来、自殺が若年層に於ける死因の最も大きな割合を占めており、現代の若者が今一度「死」について考えることの重要性が高まりつつあると言える。死生学の領域においてはターミナルケアを皮切りに、死を見つめることにより生を充実させんとする考え方が採用されてきた。現在ではデス・エデュケーションの概念も徐々に一般へ広まりつつあり、教育課程に於いてこれが取り入れられる試みも散見される。しかし、既存のデス・エデュケーションによる介入プログラムは、受講者が死について考えることやそれにより命のありがたさを実感させることを目的としており、どのような「死に纏わる経験」が個人の認知的枠組みに影響を与えるかということについて明らかにした先行研究は極めて少ない。本稿ではまず文献レビューを行い、先行研究に於いてこれまで「死生観」の要素として並列的に扱われてきた種々項目を、死を意識することの契機となる「死に纏わる経験」とその結果として個人が持つ「死のイメージ・死への態度」とに分類することで、「死に纏わる経験」が個人の「死のイメージ・死への態度」にどのような影響を与えるかについて考察した。次に「死のイメージ・死への態度」が個人の幸福観にどのように寄与するかについて明らかにすべく、インタビュー調査を実施した。インタビューでは「死に纏わる経験」のうち特に「身近な他者の死」が個人の幸福観にどのような影響を与えているかについて、死生観を切り口に分析を行った。「身近な人の死」という死に纏わる経験が宗教的信念や文化的価値観同様、個人の死生観を変容させ、その結果として幸福観に影響を与えている可能性ついて検討した。Suicide has been the leading cause of death for young people in Japan for several years, and it is becoming increasingly important for young people today to think about “death.” The field of thanatology has adopted the idea of enriching life by seeing death, starting with end-of-life care. Today, the concept of death education is gradually spreading to the general public, and there are some attempts to embed it in the education curriculum. However, existing death education programs are only aimed at helping students think about death and thereby recognize the value of life. Few previous studies have shown how “death-related experiences” affect an individualʼs cognitive framework. This paper first reviews the literature of the thanatology. The various items that have been treated in parallel as elements of the “view of life and death” in previous studies are classified into “death-related experiences” and “image of death/attitude toward death” hierarchically. We considered how the “death-related experience” would affect an individualʼs “image of death/attitude toward death.” Next, an interview survey was conducted to clarify how the “image of death/attitude toward death” contributes to an individualʼs view of well-being. In this interview, we analyzed the influence of “the death of others close to us” among the “experiences related to death” on the individualʼs view of well-being from the perspective of life and death. We examined the possibility that the death-related experience just like religious beliefs and cultural values transformed an individualʼs view of life and death, and as a result, affected the view of well-being.
