Japanese care work practices seem to have their own accumulation. There have also been a number of attempts to build the theory of care work. However, it seems that there is no consensus yet on the phenomenon which are the academic objects of “daily life” support in care work. The purpose of this paper is to examine the “phenomenon” that are the objects of care work based on the accumulation of care work practices. The arguments over the object from the late 1990s to 2000s were divided into three categories. “standpoint of nursing” (A), “standpoint of welfare” (B) and “standpoint of the third party” (C). The discussion on A and C has already ended. This paper discussed B, examined the controversial concept of “daily life”, and demonstrated the confusion in understanding between “daily life” and “social life”, “daily life” and “operation of daily life”.
