In the same year Mr. Obama was elected as the president of U.S.A., before that Beijing Olympic Games and the Lehman shock had occurred. Focusing on two specific extraordinary events in life: one being the great earthquakes of Japan and the other being divorce, this paper will clarify the trends of intermarriages between foreigners and Japanese have changed since 2008. The Third Basic Plan for Gender Equality was announced in 2009 and it would provide support to women who face multiple additional challenges due to having disabilities or being foreign residents of Japan. Thanks to this basic plan for rebuilding employment and safety nets, it made it possible to find people who were vulnerable after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake which occurred off the Pacific coast. As for divorce, the related law for the International parental child abduction finally passed in the Japanese Diet in 2013. Through these extraordinary experiences in life, this paper will approach what is significant for marriage migrants and "multicultural coexistence" in Japan.
