抄録: Micoorganisms capable of lysing the cell wall of the red yeast Rhodosporidium were isolated from the soil obtained with in the precincts of the Yosida Shrine in Kyoto by screening for their ability to utilize the cell wall prepared from the red yeast as a carbon source which was seeded On an agar plate. The actinomycete strain YM1-1 supposed to be Streptomyces was found to Produce the lytic enzymes. The supernatant obtained by culturing of this soil microbe lysed the cell wall of the red yeast. The resulting crnde lytic enzyme fractions, after sedimentation by addition of ammonium sulfate, showed the high lytic activity toward the red yeast cell wall and laminarin, indicating mainly contained β-glucan-hydrizing activity, In addition, the actinomycete strain YM1-1 adhered to form flocculent clumps. The tendency to form clumps may facilitate the separation of the microorganism after a batch cultivation.</summary>

抄録: The IgG found in blood serum of hen is known to transfer to yolk of egg laid by the hen to give acquired immunity to the offspring. The antibody in egg yolk has been referred to as IgY. At present, a tremendous number of hens are being systematically immunized with several antigens (vaccination) to protect the hens from infectious diseases, and managed to lay eggs as scheduled for commercial transaction. Hen eggs, therefore, are now considered to be a potential source of a large-scale production of antibody (IgY). An important application of IgY is for passive immunization therapy in which the specific binding ability to the antigens (pathogens, venoms, etc.) serves to neutralize the biological activities of those antigens. Passive immunization seems to be one of the most valuable application of antibody in which pathogen-specific IgY is administered to individuals to result in prevention from infectious diseases. In this article, passive immunization tests using IgY in order to prevent rotavirus diarrhea, dental caries, and fish disease are introduced. The antigen-specific IgY has now been able to prepare in an industrial scale from eggs laid by the hens immunized with selected antigens. Therefore, eating antibodies (IgY) will be practical for prevention of infectious diseases.</summary>

抄録: Platelet-activating factor (PAF, 1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is a potent bioactive lipid that is formed enzymatically in various mammalian cells and tissues. We found that high PAF activities in lipid extracts from fishes. Recently, Tanaka et al. reported that novel phospholipids with an sn-2-short-chain acyl groups, having PAF-like bioactivities, were produced by lipid peroxidation of CGP (cholineglycerophospholipid) with an sn-2-polyunsaturated fatty acyl (PUFA) group. Therefore, we wondered whether the bioactive phospholipids in lipid extract from fishes were formed by lipid peroxidation. We extracted and prepared lipids with and without an anti-oxidant BHT from the tissues of various kinds of fishes and shellfishes. The lipid extract containing PAF-like compound that was purified by thin-layer chromatography induced the aggregation of washed rabbit platelets, and the activities were inhibited by PAF receptor antagonist, WEB-2086. Fishes which had high PAF-like activities were abundant in CGP with PUFA. In the case of lipid preparations without BHT, increase in PAF-like activities and TBARS (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances) values, and decrease in PUFA content in CGP were observed. Furthermore, we peroxidized CGPs derived from various fishes and shellfishes, and PAF-like biological activities were measured by platelet aggregation. Investigations of the correlation between the PAF-like activities produced by peroxidation of PUFA containing CGP and the contents of PUFA and alkyl ether-linked subclass in parent CGPs, revealed that higher activities were produced by peroxidation of alky-PUFA CGP species, that were rich in alkyl ether-linked subclass and/or rich in docosahexaenoate (DHA). These results suggest that the lipids having PAF-like biological activities in fishes and shellfishes were produced by peroxidation of PUFA containing CGP.</summary>

抄録: 1. Dietary intakes of magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) were estimated by means of food composition table (FCT) -based calculation, and the values thus obtained (the calculated values) were compared with the values measured by the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) (the measured values). The calculated values were all lower than the measured values, and were considered to be inadequate for the estimation of dietary element intakes. 2. Not all of the food items consumed were listed in the FCT. The weights of the food items consumed that were listed in the FCT were summed up (FCT-SUM), and the sum was compared with the weight of total food items consumed (CONSUMED). The measured values were corrected by multiplying the ratio of CONSUMED/FCT-SUM (the corrected values, or the values corrected on a total food basis). The corrected values were 116,116 and 117% of the measured values in cases of Mg, Zn and Cu, respectively. The corrected values are related with the measured values in all three comparisons, although the correlation coefficients were all less than 0.5. 3. Further trials for obtaining a better correlation were made by classification of food items in terms of food groups after the ECT, followed by the correction for each food groups, and then summing up the corrected values. No improvement, however, could be achieved by this procedure. 4. It was concluded, therfore, that the correction on the total food basis would be recommended, and that rough estimates of Mg, Zn and Cu intakes should be available by this procedure.</summary>
